House GU29A

Keitum 2018

Two individualists and a house by the sea: On the island Sylt, BATEK ARCHITEKTEN was asked to redesign a heritage-protected thatched roof house by two friends. One half classic, the other modern. The traditional feel of the island is reminiscent of a country style kitchen, wood panels, and a brick floor. A redesigned wooden staircase, simple shaker-design furniture, and an Art Nouveau tiled stove fit naturally into the surroundings.
The modern section is characterized by a minimalist interior, to which distinct design objects give an individuality. Hand-painted surfaces with deliberate brushstrokes, old oak planks, and brass objects combine the two areas of the house into a harmonious unity. What seems to have been a perfect blend of old and new is really a complete redesign.
