Barbershop STLEO

Berlin 2024

In the barbershop St Leonard, the focus is on clientele and craftsmanship. This reduction to essentials is reflected in the design by BATEK ARCHITEKTEN. Minimal, restrained interventions in the former Berlin café’s structure, as well as the preservation of certain elements, emphasize this approach. The salon features a bar and café counter, that provides a space for community alongside high-quality haircuts, with a special emphasis on valuing clients. A large mirror installation, extending freely along the room, detached from the existing structure, visually broadens the elongated space. Unlike individual mirrors, it fosters both spatial and interpersonal connections during the daily business, enhancing the sense of belonging. White tiles, rough plastered walls, and zinc sheet furniture contribute to a clean, minimalist appearance, harmonizing beautifully with the existing raw elements like the flooring, exposed brick sections, and the current hairdressing equipment.
